    • ViewModelBase performance, solution

I'm experiencing some terrible performance with ViewModelBase (WPF) class. If changing Model properties or adding items to list, profiler is returning results that are hundreds of times slower then expected. I figured out that such performance is because of events attached in HookChangedEvents method...

    • CSLA 4.5.10 - Xaml.ViewModelBase under Silverlight

Hi Rocky Since moving over from 4.3 to 4.5 I'm experiencing a strange issue with the Xaml ViewModelBase when calling BeginSave() and the DataPortal throws an exception. BeginSave works just fine when there is no exception on the server side data portal, however what I'm observing is that if the...

    • Re: MVVM and Child Objects

I use MVVM when editing a child object from a list. My view model follows the same patterns as Rocky has suggested inheriting the Csla.Xaml.ViewModel class. I pass in both the child object and the root object into the constructor. Within the view model constructor I do a BeginEdit on the root and set...

    • Re: IsBusy set to false after OnRefreshed in view model

Yes, Rocky. I am starting another asynchronous operation in OnRefreshed overload method to fetch look up data and other general setting. So I am setting IsBusy property true in OnRefreshed method. But it set false when OnRefreshed call completed. Is there any way to set Isbusy property? Thanks.

    • ProjectEdit / CollectionViewSource question

In the ProjectEdit user control in the new ProjectTracker example, the CollectionViewSource named "projectGetterViewSource" has no source defined for it. On page 102 of the e-book, it states that "the first resource will contain the root viewmodel for the view." Here is the xaml line...

    • Re: TriggerAction w/ TargetControl of a ViewModel

There are two reasons for being a DependencyObject (rather than a simple class implementing INotifyPropertyChanged): You can write code in the viewmodel to detect if you are in design mode You can bind to the Model property to create cascading (parent-child) viewmodels The second one is the primary driver...

    • ClientContext cleared during simultaneous ViewModel refresh

Hi, I am using CSLA 4.1.0 for a Silverlight app. I recently experienced a problem where my ClientContext was being randomly cleared. After a lot of digging I have traced the source of the problem (I hope). It is because I am refreshing several ViewModel objects simultaneously. I am using the MVVM pattern...

    • Re: MVVM ViewModel and String code smell

Yeah, with the sync methods we were able to accept a lambda expression, and so the factory method can be passed as a parameter. The async factory methods are complex, because they require a callback parameter that includes a double-indirected generic type. If I remember correctly, you can still use a...

    • Detail Viewmodel for BusinessListBase<OrderList, Order>

I read Rockys blog entry CSLA .NET 3.8 Beta 2 MVVM support at least a dozen times. Good stuff, and I managed to get the basics working. this is my first try with basic MVVM using the CLSA Viewmodel and TriggerAction. I have a root object Orders, that is a list of children, Orders. BusinessListBase <...

    • Re: Edit level mismatch in AcceptChanges CSLA 4.1 Silverlight

Do you have a viewmodel for any child objects? ViewModelBase, by default, manages the Model object's lifetime - which means it calls BeginEdit automatically. It wouldn't call ApplyEdit automatically for a child object though. Usually what you do for a viewmodel that represents a child object...

    • Csla.Xaml.ViewModel<T> - Overloads inconsistently marked as virtual

Hi all We have our own ViewModelCore base class that inherits from Csla.Xaml.ViewModel<T> and overrides and adds a couple of behaviours that we need. A specific example is the BeginRefresh overloads on Csla.Xaml.ViewModel<T>. We started doing this since 3.8.4, and CSLA 4 added a valuable...

    • Re: DynamicListBase and WPF lost exception

That is possible. The ViewModelBase class was designed around BB and BLB, with support for ROB and ROLB. DLB is a very different construct, with very different behaviors. And at the time we wrote this code Microsoft didn't have a WPF datagrid control that actually worked with any rich collection...

    • Re: DynamicListBase and WPF lost exception

I see. I think this is a mismatch between ViewModelBase and DynamicListBase. Not necessarily a bug either, just a side-effect of the way things work. DLB doesn't ever get saved itself, and the object saving infrastructure in VMB is all around saving the root object. So the viewmodel's OnSaved...

    • Re: Silverlight BeginSave()

The ViewModel<T> class has a Save method. This invokes BeginSave in Silverlight and WP7. Since the samples you mention are using MVVM and ViewModel<T>, they call Save on the viewmodel (using TriggerAction), which calls BeginSave on the business object and automatically handles the async callback...
