    • Re: WPF DataGrid that works properly with databinding and CSLA

fwiw, Microsoft deprecated the whole data provider concept several years ago, so it doesn't surprise me that the model doesn't work with any modern UI components. The only reason CslaDataProvider still exists is for backward compatibility - for people who have old WPF code presumably using UI...

    • Why does the server-side csla.dll affect my compile of the XAML using CslaDataProvider?

We have been compiling the server side of our Silverlight App using 32bit for years. We need to support a 64bit only reference in our next release so we changed our server side code to compile with AnyCpu. In doing so we found a strange problem. Our Silverlight XAML that references CslaDataProvider fails...

    • CslaDataProvider differences between WPF & Silverlight

I just spent many hours trying to figure out why data binding was working in a (CSLA) WPF app, but the same data binding failed (at runtime) in a (CSLA) Silverlight app. There is a subtle difference that I couldn't find documented anywhere that I will document here for other people to hopefully find...

    • Re: CslaDataProvider userState?

CslaDataProvider is modeled on the Microsoft data provider concept - which is now effectively obsolete. The design of CslaDataProvider exists to mirror Microsoft's data provider designs in WPF, and they didn't do userstate. Generally I recommend switching to an MVVM model using ViewModel or ViewModelBase...

CslaDataProvider DPBookingRequest = this.Resources["data"] as CslaDataProvider; if (DPBookingRequest.CanSave) { BookingRequestER bookingObject = (BookingRequestER)DPBookingRequest.Data; if (bookingObject.IsValid) DPBookingRequest.Save(); } this save always work in 3, but in 4 gives this error...

we have manage to upgrade our big project from csla 3.8 to csla 4, but with this error in the xaml cslaAdapter binding: - An unhandled exception of type 'System.StackOverflowException' occurred in Unknown Module. the fetch to the Server works so the binding work. but there is a problem when the...

    • Re: CslaDataprovider in MVVM

The data provider model isn't a particularly great tool for implementing MVVM. In fact, since Microsoft has pretty much stopped focusing on the data provider concept, I view it as a legacy technology and only left it in CSLA 4 for backward compatibility. I suggest using the ViewModelBase or ViewModel...

    • Re: Dynamic list retrieve

You might be hitting a timing issue, since all three data providers will do independent async server calls. To avoid this, you might need to use the unit of work pattern and have one data provider make the server call. I don't remember if I enabled "chaining" of data providers, but I think...

    • Re: CslaDataProvider and Callback method

CslaDataProvider invokes static factory methods only if they have the correct method signature. In Silverlight this means the method must accept the callback parameter. CslaDataProvider actually handles the callback itself, and uses the callback to know that it needs to update its Data and ObjectInstance...

    • two clients using two services using same port with singleton in service to manage application servers

Greetings, I am hoping someone can assist in this new request involving wcf configuration for a project I am working on. The current project is using CSLA 3.8.2, has a Silverlight client hosted in an asp.net web server (just regular stuff) that also hosts WCF dataportal service written in a .net assembly...

    • Re: CslaDataProvider RemoveItem

I think this is a bug - an oversight on my part. In 3.8 InvokeMethod, like Execute and now TriggerAction, invokes methods with 0 or 2 parameters. RemoveItem() has one parameter, and so can't be invoked by these components. The RemoveItem() method is still there, just unreachable... I think most people...

Hi I am having issues this this as I have just upgraded from 3.7.0 to 3.8.3 but now am stuck as csla:InvokeMethos="RemoveItem" doesn't appear to exist anymore - could you let me know what this has been replaced with. Thanks <Button x:Name="DeleteButton" Content="Delete"...

    • Re: How to change WcfProxy Url or EndPoint?

I am not sure I understand. You are binding UI controls to the data portal? That's not normal. What properties of the data portal would you bind to the UI? Or are you saying you are binding by using a CslaDataProvider? I'll assume so, as that makes sense. It should work to Refresh() a data provider...

    • Re: Does Save raise any event before proceeding with save

Technically you wouldn't have to go completely MVVM to be safe. The ViewModel<T> base class in 3.8 and higher is actually very similar to the CslaDataProvider in many ways, and switching from a data provider to a ViewModel<T> subclass is probably not that big a mental adjustment, nor...

    • Re: Does Save raise any event before proceeding with save

This probably isn't what you want to hear, but the CslaDataProvider is no longer the recommended approach, and this shortcoming I think is a good reason why. The solution would be to move to a MVVM implemention, and you should be able to do this in the ViewModel. I'm not sure I really see any...

    • Re: Could not load file or Assembly issue

Besides giving the detail Blake requested, I think the recommendation is to no longer use CslaDataProvider but instead go the MVVM route. That component will be removed I believe just after Csla 4.0.
