Hey Rocky, be a fan for a while now--geez... has it been a decade already?? Anyway--my two cents... wrestling one convention or practice in favor of another... relaxing constraints... I don't think that's what your community is necessarily trying to convey. Perhaps a comprise in that they are...

    • csla upgrade questions

We had an asp.net web application developed in csla (3) with visual studio 2008, aps.net 3.5 C# Now we want to upgrade it to aps.net 4 or 4.5 with vs2010 or later. Questions: 1. Can current csla (3) be able to update directly with vs2010 or later without any changing? 2. If we want to upgrade to csla...

    • Multiple DataPortals - Could I and Should I?

I have an ASP.NET MVC application that I am currently working on. The application should scale to be able to support web farms. In addition to plain old database access, users will have the ability to upload files. Of course this means the files will need to be uploaded to a single server location on...

    • ApplicationContextManager issue and WCF

It looks like we have a nasty problem with ApplicationContext which I am hoping someone can help with. We have some WCF services hosted within an ASP.NET website (where the website also contains ASPX pages) so that we can expose data to JavaScript for client-side functionality (such as auto-complete...

    • Re: Custom Authentiaction with ASP..NET MVC

There are several different technologies working together in these examples. First, there's the CSLA custom principal/identity types. You use these for almost all scenarios, especially when you are using your own user/role tables. Second, there's the ASP.NET and IIS authentication model, which...

    • Sorting SortedBindingList by child object property

Hello, I'm trying to sort a GridView by a property of a child object. I'm able to successfully set the DataField of a BoundField to the child column ("Application.Name"), but this doesn't work for sorting. How would I go about accessing this child property in the ApplySort method...

This sounds like a question you might need to ask in an ASP.NET forum on MSDN or something. I've never explored this part of the DataAnnotations infrastructure.

    • How to match part of a string?

Hi all, This seems like a very simple question, but searching for 'like' isn't very helpful and searching wildcards for csla isn't coming up with any usable results. Basically, I would like to get business objects back that partially match a search term. For instance, if a user enters...

    • Re: Csla.ApplicationContext.GlobalContext Losing Value in MVC

I'm not enough of an ASP.NET expert to know the answer. I do know that ASP.NET "optimizes" its pipeline for different types of calls, dropping a lot of events and other processing that would happen for a web page when the call is for a service. I'm pretty sure you can use attributes...

    • Re: .NET 4.5 broke my CSLA 4.3 app

Ahh, sorry, I see now what you are saying. I don't know the answer, but can provide some info you may find useful in troubleshooting. Csla.ApplicationContext.User delegates to HttpContext.Current.User in an ASP.NET host if you have Csla.Web.dll referenced in your project (so it is in the \bin folder...

    • steps to get the csla hello world samples to run (winforms and webforms only)

hi All, Does anyone have any info on what I need to do to get the samples to run. I need to work on a project for a client with specific version requirements. (they need it done in .net 3.5 sp1 only - not the latest .net 4 or 4.5). So I downloaded the samples and source for csla 3.8.4-111003 Built the...

    • Re: Is Re-Use of Silverlight Async objects possible for asp.net WebForms?

It is not really practical to use Silverlight-style async methods on a web server, no. This will change with .NET 4.5 and CSLA 4.5 when the new async/await keywords are available. But with today's event-based callback model it is quite difficult to get ASP.NET to work well with async calls.

    • Re: WCF Web API and Csla.ApplicationContextUser

Once the User property is set it won't change unless your code changes it. On a web server, the User property value is actually stored in HttpContext, and ASP.NET manages the context object to ensure it is consistent throughout the life of the web request.

    • Re: CslaDataSource with DataPortalResult Async list methods

You can't use the async data portal in ASP.NET. There are numerous reasons this is problematic, mostly having to do with the way ASP.NET itself is designed to work and use threads. This may change in .NET 4.5 with the new async/await keywords, because they allow your code to function as though it...
