    • Re: CSLA PCL

I've discussed the pros and cons of a PCL before, and it isn't an easy tradeoff. Because CSLA contains optimized code for some of the platforms (most notably full .NET vs some of the other platforms), and a PCL allows you exactly one implementation, if I created a PCL version of CSLA it would have to only use the non-optimized code - that is

    • Re: Encapsulated Invocation - Loading unreferenced assemblies

The only reason the samples in the book reference the concrete DAL assemblies is convenience. One way or another the DLLs need to end up in the bin directory on the server so they can be loaded dynamically. The easiest way to get the DLLs into the bin directory when building the solution is to have the web project reference those DAL projects. That

    • Re: CSLA / Reactive Extensions Serialization issue

I did accept your pull request regarding this issue, thank you. Fwiw, I didn't like accepting the pull request, because really what we're doing is accommodating a flawed implementation in ReactiveUI - at least that's my view. I'd like to understand why they made their types serializable if they aren't, in fact, serializable or intended

    • Re: Book Order

Yes Brian, I'm afraid I've been out for a few months due to my surgery. I'm easing back into some work now, which is really nice, but recovery is slow. I am very sorry for any trouble people had during this time with store orders. Generally emailing cslastore@lhotka.net is the correct way to get support. Tim is usually able to resolve issues

    • Re: Custom ISerializationFormatter Feature Request

This has not been tossed around at all. Creating a serialized that actually works (does deserialization properly - that's the hard part) is really hard, and you are perhaps the third person to bring up the desire to do so at all. (fwiw, the first two people said "this is easy", I warned them it was hard, then they disappeared never to

    • Re: What's best technology for CSLA after Silverlight

This is the topic of our times isn't it? :) I do think it comes down to native vs JavaScript. Although we are exploring the csla.js concept, it is slow going because the JavaScript world is so fluid, and because CSLA (historically) has relied on the underlying platform to do basic things like data binding. In the JavaScript world there is no stable

    • Starting work on version 4.6

Spent a few hours yesterday making some big changes around .NET 4.6 and VS15. In GitHub there's now a V4-5-x branch that will be used to maintain the existing 4.5 version of CSLA that uses VS13 and targets .NET 4.5, WinRT, Silverlight, etc. The master branch in GitHub will be soon moving to VS15 to add support for .NET 4.6. This will also be version

    • Re: ProjectTracker not compatible with Microsoft.AspNet.Identity.EntityFramework.dll 2.1

You can add this as an issue in GitHub, and if you have the time to resolve it you can submit a pull request - thank you!

    • Re: Type level authorization rules

You can add a check in a custom data portal authorizer. The authorizer runs before pretty much anything else on the server, and is the location for global checks you might want to perform before allowing a user request to be processed - for example doing a server-side check of HasPermissions.

    • Re: Can't log in into Project Tracker. User Id not found

For what little it is worth, this is why I've been shifting the sample apps away from using actual databases. There are so many variations on the versions and ways people configure SQL Server that just getting the apps to work requires that you understand your database version/edition/configuration and adapt to whatever you have in your environment
