• Re: SL vs WPF going forward - another look

The "scattered around the country" phrase is something that immediately leads me to think about 3-tier, at least for those users. The use of service protocols over a WAN is almost always better than the less reliable SQL Server raw communication. It is also the case that WinRT is also a 3-tier...

    • CSLA and MVVM frameworks 2011?

I'm new to MVVM and I'm struggling to make a decision on which MVVM framework to adopt. We use CSLA extensively on the app server side, but not currently within our WinForms client apps which are 2-tier apps using an SOA architecture - i.e. loosely coupled from the server. Some of these apps...

    • CslaDataProvider differences between WPF & Silverlight

I just spent many hours trying to figure out why data binding was working in a (CSLA) WPF app, but the same data binding failed (at runtime) in a (CSLA) Silverlight app. There is a subtle difference that I couldn't find documented anywhere that I will document here for other people to hopefully find...

    • Re: IdentityConverter and CSLA Silverlight

WPF 3.5 introduced a binding option that solves this problem, so I removed IdentityConverter from CSLA at that point. I don't recall the specific binding option off the top of my head, but there's a way to tell the binding to always refresh. To my knowledge, Silverlight never had this same issue...
However, each specific platform has extensions or specialized bits of functionality for that platform. So each time it is Silverlight + ???.
Mmmmm, I think you are spot on Rocky. I have been desperately doing some research regarding this WPF / Silverlight...

    • Re: WPF a dead end street?

fwiw, here's how I view these things. Silverlight is the primary smart client technology going forward, because it reaches Windows, web, Windows Phone and embedded devices. However, each specific platform has extensions or specialized bits of functionality for that platform. So each time it is Silverlight...

    • RE: Silverlight binding to IsDirty doesn't change when other properties are changed

Hi Rocky Any news on this? Apologies if this is something that's been implemented for CSLA 4.0 - haven't had the chance to test this out on 4.0 yet. I'm have a Silverlight project using CSLA 3.8.4 and the issue remains. I'm binding directly to the business object (MVVM will have to wait...

    • PropertyChanged events in WPF (Beginner)

I noticed in the 3.8 SimplApp sample, that the field has to lose focus for the buttons to update their status from disabled to enabled. That creates a problem in that you can't select the "Save" button until you have exited the field. Which means the user can enter some data to change a...

    • Re: Silverlight design time error using VS 2010

Now that I'm home and have a couple minutes, I can provide a little more background. Prior to 3.8.2 the data portal did this check for you, and routed data portal calls to a "design time create/fetch method". There were two problems with that. There's apparently a SL/.NET runtime bug...

    • XAML UI proto-framework

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I was working on a "proto-framework" for XAML UI work. I ended up using that in some talks at the Visual Studio 2010 launch last week, and have put the code online http://www.lhotka.net/weblog/VisualStudio2010LaunchDemos.aspx Whether this Basic XAML Framework...
